Data mesh is a decentralized sociotechnical approach to share, access, and manage analytical data in complex and large-scale environments - within or across organizations.1

Principles

  1. Domain ownership
  2. Data as a Product
  3. Self-serve data platform
  4. Federated computational governance

Data

Data Mesh distinguishes two types of data:

  • Operational data (OLTP) - supports business and keeps the current state of the business with transactional integrity;
  • Analytical data (OLAP) - historical, integrated, and aggregate view of data created as the byproduct of running a business.
